More than 100 traffic, highway, and mobility police officers from 17 municipalities in the State of Mexico participated in the second Road Safety Training Session for Police Officers for the 2026 cycle, held at the Chimalhuacán Professional Academic Unit of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico. The workshop brought together 123 public servants and academics from 25 agencies, with the goal of strengthening their capabilities as first responders to traffic accidents on expressways.
The event was attended by Juan Hugo de la Rosa, Secretary of Mobility for the State of Mexico, who emphasized the importance of police departments strengthening and certifying their knowledge so they can replicate it in their municipalities. “We commend the interest shown by police departments in obtaining certification through these workshops, as participants who completed six effective hours of training on road safety and risk factors—through the exchange of experiences—will be able to apply the knowledge they’ve acquired and promote safe traffic management in traffic incidents and accidents within their municipalities,” he said.
Strengthen the response to protect lives
Responding to a traffic accident requires technical knowledge, the ability to react quickly, and coordination among the various agencies involved within the first few minutes. For this reason, this edition included demonstration sessions on safe traffic control and the extraction of injured individuals, with exercises designed to strengthen police response and the protection of those who use high-speed roads.
The training also provided an opportunity to bring together law enforcement agencies with different operational contexts to share experiences and best practices in traffic accident prevention, emergency response, and the protection of road users.
“These workshops have evolved alongside the needs of police agencies. Today, they combine technical knowledge, practical exercises, and tools to assess learning, with the aim of strengthening capabilities that can lead to a safer and more coordinated response to traffic accidents,” said Fernanda Espinosa, Director of the Aleatica Foundation for Road Safety.
Training that incorporates new tools
As part of the 2026 cycle, the workshop expanded its content to address the challenges faced by operational personnel. The program incorporated a gender perspective, mobility with a focus on care-centered equality, mindful leadership, physical and psychosocial risks, managing high-stress situations, and the use of personal protective equipment.
In addition, the Aleatica Foundation strengthened the practical component and incorporated an assessment of knowledge and learning to identify opportunities for improvement. Upon completing the training, participants received a DC-3 certificate valid with the STPS/CONOCER, which attests to the competencies acquired.
Since 2023, the Road Safety Training Workshops for Police Officers have established themselves as a platform for institutional strengthening for the agencies responsible for road safety.
The Chimalhuacán workshop represents a new step in the training of those who play a fundamental role when responding to an accident; having better tools to respond safely, in a coordinated and effective manner helps protect the lives of those who share the roads.
