The 2026 cycle of the Road Safety Training Workshops for Police Officers concluded at its final venue with the third workshop held at the Mexico City Police University (UNIPOL), where 233 officers from eight agencies strengthened their knowledge and skills in responding to traffic accidents.
The session brought together representatives from institutions in Mexico City and the State of Mexico, including the Secretariat of Public Safety, the Undersecretariat of Traffic Control, mobility secretariats, municipal governments, and UNIPOL cadets. This participation facilitated the sharing of experiences and strengthened coordination among those who perform duties related to the prevention of and response to traffic accidents.
Strengthen the response from the outset
During six hours of hands-on training, participants completed exercises focused on situations that may arise while responding to an accident on high-speed roads. The program included three practical stations on safe traffic control, coordination with emergency services, and the protection of pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.
The hands-on component aims to strengthen law enforcement agencies’ response capabilities and provide them with tools they can apply in real-life situations, particularly during the initial stages of responding to an accident.
A training program that broadens road safety perspectives
The 2026 program incorporated content that complements the operational training of law enforcement agencies. The sessions addressed gender perspectives, mobility with a focus on care and equality, mindful leadership, physical and psychosocial risks, managing high-stress situations, and the use of personal protective equipment, in addition to an assessment of knowledge and learning.
“When a traffic accident occurs, the first few minutes are critical. Having better-trained police officers means having people capable of responding in a safer, more coordinated, and more effective manner when it is needed most. Strengthening these capabilities ultimately means strengthening the protection of life,” said Fernanda Espinosa, Director of the Aleatica Foundation for Road Safety.
Upon completion of the training, participants received a DC-3 certificate valid through the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS), in recognition of the skills acquired during the program.
A cycle with more than 1,900 participants
The session held at UNIPOL marks the conclusion of the 2026 cycle of Road Safety Training Sessions for Police Officers.
The closing of the cycle also provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among institutions and recognize the role of police officers and first responders in protecting road users. Greater preparedness and coordination help improve the response to accidents and move toward safer mobility.
