The Aleatica Foundation Launches the 4th “We Are Road Safety” Campaign to Prevent Traffic Accidents

  • The initiative aims to implement concrete projects in areas with high rates of traffic accidents to reduce risks.
  • Now in its fourth year, the program is strengthening its focus on measurable impact, scalability, and a gender perspective.
  • A total of $1,050,000 MXN will be awarded to the selected projects, along with technical support.

Mexico City, May 12, 2026.— Every year in Mexico, more than 16,000 people lose their lives in traffic accidents, and tens of thousands suffer serious injuries. In response to this reality, the Aleatica Foundation for Road Safety launched the We Are Road Safety Call for Proposals, a program that funds and supports projects designed to reduce road safety risks.

Now in its fourth year, the initiative seeks to identify and accelerate solutions developed by authorized grantees, as well as civil society organizations and startups, that can be implemented in areas with high accident rates in order to generate measurable results in protecting the most vulnerable road customers. Between 2023 and 2025, informational and awareness-raising workshops were held for nearly 27,000 young people, and approximately 70 road safety trainers were trained.

Since its inception, the initiative has evolved into a model that brings together stakeholders in the ecosystem to develop scalable and replicable solutions. This approach allows for addressing immediate issues and influencing the conditions that give rise to road safety risks.

This year, the program includes adjustments designed to enhance the quality of proposals and expand its scope. Notable among these are specialized mentoring for finalists, as well as the inclusion of criteria that assess a project’s potential for improvement throughout the process.

Additionally, the call for proposals emphasizes the integration of a gender perspective as a key factor in the evaluation process, with the aim of promoting solutions that are more inclusive and aligned with diverse mobility patterns.

The initiatives must be implemented in Aleatica’s areas of influence in Mexico, allowing efforts to be focused on contexts where identified risk conditions and opportunities for intervention exist.

The program is part of the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030 and aligns with the United Nations Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026–2035 by integrating a vision that links road safety with safer, more accessible, and more inclusive mobility systems.

“We are looking for solutions that don’t just stay on paper. This program focuses on projects that can be implemented, measured, and scaled up to reduce road risks in real-world contexts,” said Bosco Martí, President of the Aleatica Foundation.

What kinds of projects is the We Are Road Safety Call for Proposals looking to support?

The 2026 edition is organized around three main areas of focus:

● Safety on Two Wheels: Focused on protecting motorcyclists.

● Transforming Risk Hotspots: Focused on comprehensive road safety projects, aligned with the Safe System approach, in school zones and high-accident areas, to prevent traffic accidents and promote safe behavior.

● Road Safety Culture in Motion: Aimed at changing risky behaviors.

The proposals must address key mobility risk factors such as speeding, failure by all occupants to use seat belts, driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, celular phone use or other distractions, failure to use protective equipment and risky riding behavior by motorcyclists, dangerous lane changing, or accidents involving pedestrians.
