Aleatica Foundation participates in the Forum “United for Road Safety” in Colombia

Antioquia, Colombia, August 22 — Aleatica Foundation for Road Safety is taking part in the forum “United for Road Safety. One Corridor, One Shared Commitment”, organized by the Autopista Río Magdalena (ARM) concession in Colombia. This platform for dialogue and the exchange of best practices brings together representatives from the public and private sectors, as well as civil society, to promote coordinated efforts on road safety across the country.

Aleatica Foundation is contributing with a presentation titled “Safe Riding for Motorcyclists: Evidence from the Motociclismo ConSentido Program,” aimed at promoting the use of certified helmets among motorcyclists.

The First Road Safety Perception Survey in Mexico, conducted by Aleatica Foundation in collaboration with SIMO Consulting and the University Institute for Traffic and Road Safety Research (INTRAS), reveals that 97% of respondents underestimate the scale of the road safety crisis: more than 16,000 fatalities were reported in 2023, including 6,000 motorcyclist deaths, making them the most affected vulnerable group. Moreover, only 21% of riders hold an A1 or A2 class license for motorcycle operation.

Based on these findings, Aleatica Foundation launched the communication campaign ¡No Te Hagas!, a bold call for shared responsibility developed in partnership with FIA Foundation, ITDP, and the Helmet Coalition. The campaign addresses high-risk behaviors—such as riding without a certified helmet, speeding, or using a cellphone while driving—through a humorous tone that resonates and sticks with the audience.

¡No Te Hagas! has become a success story in Mexico, reaching over 55 million people and surpassing all expectations. It stands as a replicable and adaptable initiative for addressing the challenges posed by motorcycle use in Colombia.

In addition, Edgar Zamora, Safer Journeys Regional Leader at iRAP and member of Aleatica’s Foundation advisory committee, delivered a presentation titled “Best Practices for Safer Infrastructure”, emphasizing the need to assess, plan, and upgrade road infrastructure based on international standards. The session highlighted the measurable impact of these practices on reducing fatalities and serious injuries on roadways.

Aleatica Foundation participation underscores its commitment to expanding its impact across the countries where Aleatica operates, by sharing road safety knowledge aligned with the principles of the Safe System Approach and the objectives of the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030.
