In a firm commitment to road safety, Aleatica Foundation for Road Safety launched the second edition of the “Seguridad Vial Somos Todos” (Road Safety We Are All) call for proposals. The initiatives that apply must fall into three categories: safe infrastructure, safe vehicles and safe use of roads. They must address seven risk factors associated with the occurrence of traffic incidents: distractions, use of helmets by motorcyclists, collisions, seat belts, speeding, unsafe overtaking and consumption of alcohol or drugs while driving.
The call invites Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to present high-impact projects that contribute to improving road safety in the country. In this second edition, special emphasis is placed on youth participation, one of the most vulnerable groups to the effects of road safety.
Unlike the previous edition, in which only projects already implemented with evidence of effectiveness were accepted, this year the call is open to projects in the initial stage of development. The aim is to encourage innovation and the presentation of fresh proposals that have the potential to generate a significant impact on road safety. In this way, the initiative becomes an incubator of talent and promotes the emergence of new solutions to a complex problem.
The initiatives should be implemented in the communities surrounding the highways concessioned to Aleatica in CDMX, State of Mexico, Puebla and Veracruz, with the aim of obtaining concrete results in the short and medium term. This will save lives and prevent injuries, contributing to achieving the goal of the second Decade of Action for Road Safety, which aims to reduce fatalities and serious injuries by 50% by 2030. The evaluation criteria that will be considered to choose the winning initiatives are: scientific evidence, partnership between actors, innovation, impact, gender perspective and significant youth participation. The three winners will receive a grant of 500,000 pesos each for the development and implementation of their project.
The evaluation committee is composed of national and international experts. Transparency and impartiality are guaranteed through documentation and evaluation on the platform, where the name of the applicant organization is kept confidential. In addition, feedback will be provided to participants.
“Aleatica Foundation seeks to obtain greater participation by surpassing the 44 applications received in 2023, in addition to finding joint solutions to the problem since, in Mexico, an average of 43 people lose their lives every day in traffic accidents,” said Fernanda Espinosa, Director of Aleatica Foundation. She added: “We invite all CSOs to submit projects until August 7, thus promoting the right to mobility in safe road conditions to become a reality for all people. Road Safety We Are All”.
