Implementation of Projects from the 2023 “Road Safety Is Everyone’s Responsibility” Call for Proposals Successfully Completed

  • Training in 68 schools benefited more than 28,600 students, teachers, and parents.
  • Approximately 60,000 road users benefited from tactical urbanism interventions in improved areas.
  • Around 37,000 people received assistance in road crash and emergency response situations.

In December 2024, Aleatica Foundation successfully concluded the implementation phase of the winning projects from the first edition of the Road Safety Is Everyone’s Responsibility Call for Proposals. This initiative, launched in 2023 and carried out during 2024, aims to support projects led by civil society organizations that promote the right to safe mobility for all and offer the potential to be replicated in other contexts. It has already shown significant results in helping to meet the goals of reducing traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries.

Thanks to the valuable collaboration with civil society organizations, it was possible to implement projects that engaged local communities, promoted education and awareness on road safety, and improved road infrastructure around school zones.

The three organizations selected for this edition, each with innovative proposals and a strong focus on road safety, delivered positive outcomes:

MOVAC, through its Safe School Zone Program, reached 23,500 people in the school communities of 46 schools across the municipalities of Monterrey, San Nicolás de los Garza, and Guadalupe in the state of Nuevo León. MOVAC conducted training sessions, extracurricular activities, and awareness events focused on educating children, parents, and teachers—an important opportunity to raise awareness from an early age. Additionally, it implemented tactical urbanism activities that will benefit 18,000 people in the school community and among road users living near the three schools that were intervened.

Cinco Panes y Dos Peces implemented the project Joining Forces for Life and Road Safety in rural communities in the municipalities of Aquixtla, Cuautempan, and Chignahuapan, Puebla. The project directly benefited 1,800 children, teachers, and parents in 17 schools. In addition, the organization trained 24 volunteers to serve as first responders as part of the Regional Emergency Command Center, thereby helping to build local emergency response capacity in the event of road crashes. These efforts are estimated to have indirectly impacted approximately 37,000 residents and road users in the intervention areas.

Da Tar Tuk delivered the Spaces of Peace project, where 760 members of the school community—including students and teachers from five schools—took part in road safety training. The project also expanded its direct impact to 2,500 children with reduced mobility and their families who attend the CRIT rehabilitation center in Guadalajara. Thanks to the installation of two ramps, maintenance work, the construction of curbs, sidewalks, and railings, and the placement of 18 bollards and 13 road signs, the initiative is estimated to have benefited nearly 50,000 users and local residents around the España Station on Line 1 of Guadalajara’s light rail system.

The Road Safety Is Everyone’s Responsibility Call for Proposals has successfully sparked interest and participation from civil society organizations seeking to make tangible improvements in road safety, while also fostering a strong sense of community and shared responsibility.

Looking ahead, three new civil society organizations have already been selected to participate in the second edition of the call. The outcomes of their projects will be available by the end of 2025, continuing our commitment to promoting road safety in our communities.

Let’s keep moving forward toward a culture of road safety that protects everyone. Road Safety Is Everyone’s Responsibility.
