System Approach
On August 31, 2020, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed in its resolution 74/299 the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, with the goal of reducing road traffic deaths and injuries by at least 50% during that period.
Aleatica Road Safety Foundation is aligned with the Safe System approach of the Global Plan, to focus on three strategic axes: improving the safety of road infrastructure, ensuring vehicle safety and promoting the safe use of roads.
The Safe System approach represents a shift in the traditional paradigm for preventing serious traffic injuries and fatalities.
The safe system approach recognizes that:
1. Road transport is a complex system and places safety at its core.
2. Part of the fundamental understanding of the underlying causes of traffic fatalities and serious injuries, especially human fallibility and vulnerability.
3. Humans, vehicles and road infrastructure must interact in a way that ensures a high level of safety.
4. All stakeholders involved in mobility and road traffic are jointly responsible for creating safe conditions for road users.
Strategic advocacy areas
Safer Infrastructure
Promote projects aimed at improving road infrastructure in urban areas, in accordance with the mobility hierarchy and apply the main international standards and norms to minimize infrastructure-related risk on high-performance highways.
Safer Vehicles
Promote and support best practices and global standards for safer vehicles that contribute to prevent road accidents and protect users in case they occur.
Safer Mobility Users
Promote the Road Safety Movement, with the purpose of informing, sensitizing and raising awareness among the population about the safe use of roads, as well as the importance of respecting traffic regulations.
