Study:
Points-based licensing system

The study is based on an analysis of the scientific literature and a review of the characteristics of point-based licensing systems applied in different countries around the world. The results point to the effectiveness of the system in deterring offending behavior and reducing road crashes.

Why implement the Point License System?

Discourages drivers from committing infractions or risky behaviors.

Users value the measure positively and perceive that its purpose is to raise awareness and improve road safety.

To be as effective as possible, it should be applied equally throughout the country and offending drivers should be re-educated.

Applies different, more restrictive conditions for at-risk road groups such as novice drivers and professional drivers.
