Spaces in motion: #SeguroEsCool

What is #SeguroEsCool?
Interventions and implementation of comprehensive and systematic actions to protect the lives of children and youth in the school context.

In 2020, 1,700 children and youth between the ages of 5 and 19 lost their lives as a result of injuries caused by transit and this is the second highest cause of death, behind only illnesses like leukemia and assaults.

Based on projections of the National Population Board, in 2020 there were 43,732,381 children and youth under the age of 20 in Mexico, most of which were school aged.

Calculations indicate that 54% of trips to school are walking and that is why we focus on the importance of protecting children and youth both in the areas surrounding schools, as well as in the routes followed to get from home to school.
How will we do it?
We will work alongside recognized national and international allies to diagnose and assess the road safety conditions at selected school centers to promote the installation of appropriate traffic engineering improvements, together with ample road safety education for children, youth, parents, and the school community as a whole.
