As part of its commitment to road safety and employee well-being, Supervía Poniente, in collaboration with Fundación Aleatica for Road Safety, carried out a specialized theoretical and practical training program on safe motorcycle riding.
This initiative is part of Fundación Aleatica’s Motociclista ConSentido program, which aims to foster a culture of prevention and professionalization among motorcycle riders, especially in workplace environments. As part of the program, certified helmets were donated to each participant.
During the sessions, a total of 33 Supervía Poniente employees received comprehensive training on:
- Basic traffic rules for motorcyclists
- Proper use of protective gear
- Defensive riding techniques
- Practical maneuvers for control and braking
In addition to the theoretical training, each participant underwent a practical riding test, enabling them to obtain the certificate of competency required by Mexico City’s Ministry of Mobility to apply for an A1 or A2 motorcycle license.
This initiative is especially relevant in light of a concerning reality: in Mexico, over 16,000 road traffic fatalities are recorded each year, of which nearly 6,000 (36%) involve motorcyclists. In 2023 alone, more than 57,000 motorcycle crashes were reported nationwide—a reflection of the growing use of motorcycles as a means of transport and work. Most crashes occur during commuting hours (morning and evening), indicating a high incidence during travel to and from work.
The donation of certified helmets (approved under DOT/ECE standards) ensures that each employee is equipped with high-quality protective gear, a critical factor in reducing injury risks in the event of a crash. Proper helmet use has been proven to reduce the risk of death by up to 40% and the risk of serious head injury by more than 70%.
Public hospitals reported over 21,000 motorcycle-related hospital discharges in 2023—accounting for 62.5% of all traffic-related hospitalizations in the country. In the State of Mexico, more than 500 motorcyclist deaths were attributed to lack of helmet use, alongside over 2,000 injuries—highlighting the urgent need to promote certified protective equipment.
The rise in motorcycle-related crashes is closely linked to the increasing use of motorcycles for both transportation and work, underscoring the importance of training programs and certified helmet use. The helmet donation made through this program represents not only a preventive measure, but also a concrete action to reduce the vulnerability of daily motorcycle commuters.Through the Motociclista ConSentido Program, Aleatica Foundation for Road Safety reaffirms its commitment to safe, responsible, and sustainable mobility, promoting tangible actions that directly contribute to protecting the lives of those who ride.
